For over 40 years, the Southern Association of Forensic Scientists has served a distinguished group of professional members in a variety of different forensic disciplines. SAFS counts over 500 members in its ranks and continues to provide support to the forensic community through its offerings in continuing education, peer guidance and professional networking opportunities.
There are four types of membership available to qualifying forensic scientists:
Affiliate Membership: a limited three year membership available to any student enrolled in an accredited four year college or university, who major field of study leads to becoming a forensic scientist.
Associate Membership: a one year minimum membership level for all new members of SAFS.
Regular Membership: the standard level of membership for all members who have completed the associate membership level time period and have been voted to full voting member status.
Retired Status Membership: membership available to SAFS regular members who have retired from the professional forensics community but wish to remain active in the organization
Membership applications of all types are considered at the Business Meeting of the SAFS. Applications for associate membership, affiliate membership, promotion to regular membership, or change to retired class membership, must be submitted by June 1 of a given year in order to be considered at that year’s fall meeting. Upon acceptance of your membership, you will receive a welcome letter from the SAFS President and a dues payment statement.
