SAFS is saddened to announce the passing of James Wally Campbell. Wally served the SAFS as Treasurer for the last decade and also held the duties of secretary. Wally’s devotion for the organization was second to none and he was an anchor for the leadership of SAFS. His hard work and dedication to the SAFS helped propel it to the success it enjoys today. Wally was the manager of the Savannah Regional Laboratory for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Division of Forensic Sciences.

JAMES WALLACE ‘WALLY’ CAMPBELL, JR.
Born in Fort Lee, Virginia, he was a son of the late James Wallace Campbell and the late Mary Boling Campbell. Wally was an active member of Windsor Forest Baptist Church since 1981 where he served as a Sunday school teacher, choir member, and as a former chairman of the Deacons. He earned his undergraduate degree from Armstrong Atlantic State University and his Masters of Public Administration from Columbus University. Wally was with the Georgia Bureau of Investigations (GBI) Coastal Regional Crime Laboratory for almost 28 years. He began his career with the GBI as an entry level chemist, was later promoted to laboratory assistant manager and, at the time of his death, was laboratory manager. Wally was Treasurer of Gideon International and was a member of DeMolay International, Cecil Cheves Chapter, where he was invested with the Chevalier degree for meritorious service. He was a member and was currently Secretary and Treasurer of the Southern Association of Forensic Sciences.
Surviving are two sisters including his twin, Paula Campbell Johnston and her husband, Sgt. Mitchell Robert Johnston, GPAPD, of Rincon, Georgia, and Barbara Campbell Geisel and her husband, Paul Thomas Geisel, Sr., of Summerville, South Carolina; four nieces and nephews, Christi Boling Geisel, Paul Thomas ‘Tommy’ Geisel, Jr. and his wife, Crystal Hinely Geisel, James Robert ‘Jimmy’ Johnston and his wife, Stacy Robinson Johnston, and Judith Pauline Johnston, and four great-nieces and great-nephews, Leetah-Noel Geisel, Anthony James Geisel, Mary-Pauline Campbell Geisel and Scott Thomas Geisel.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o’clock Friday evening at Gamble Funeral Service – 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 10 o’clock Saturday morning at Windsor Forest Baptist Church conducted by The Reverend Dr. Douglas R. McCart. Interment will be in Effingham Memorial Gardens in Springfield.
