DENTISTRY 2001: A Symposium with Workshops

July 19-21,

2001 

 ADA

Headquarters in Chicago, Illinois

As currently planned, this symposium includes a mass disaster exercise;

computer-assisted identification of fatalities; a national missing and

unidentified persons workshop; expert witness methodology and mock trial; and

a discussion of bite marks and other patterned injuries. 

Noted experts will provide the participants with introductory and

orientation information for the workshops that will be conducted on the second

and third days of the conference.  The

planned workshops are a half-day in length, and will be repeated so that

attendees have the opportunity to participate in several different workshops. 

Tuition for the three-day symposium and workshops is anticipated to be

approximately $295 for ADA member dentists and $195 for non-dentists,

including dental assistants, hygienists, students or other interested

individuals.

3rd ANNUAL NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON SCIENCE AND THE LAW

Planning has begun for the 3rd Annual National Conference on Science and the

Law, October 4-6, 2001 at the Marriott Biscayne Bay Hotel in Miami, Florida.

This conference is sponsored by the National Institute of Justice, United States

Department of Justice; American Bar Association, Criminal Justice Section;

American Academy of Forensic Sciences; National Center for State Courts in

collaboration with The National Academies and The American Association for

the Advancement of Science. We will be sending out registration brochures

and begin advertising this spring. 

AUDIENCE

Criminal justice professionals including prosecutors, defense bar, judges,

investigators, law enforcement, forensic scientists. Academic community

including psychologists, molecular biologists, biotechnologists, expert

witness community.

CONFERENCE PURPOSE

This three-day conference will center on panel discussion by experts in the

field. Topics covered at this conference include:

-Mechanisms for improving the understanding between scientists, attorneys,

and judges.

-Strategies for fostering and developing questions for future research on

the role of science and scientists in the criminal justice system.
