Margaret R.
Littley
Senior
Scientist, Drug Identification
Georgia Bureau
of Investigation – Division of Forensic Sciences
I have a B.S.
degree in Forensic Chemistry/Toxicology from West Chester University, West
Chester, Pennsylvania. I have also
completed courses in genetics and human genetics.
Upon graduating from college I was hired by the GBI and have been working
for them since July 1999. Part of
my duties as a drug identification chemist is to analyze evidence that is
brought in by the different agencies in the counties which our lab services.
Upon completion of analyzing the evidence it is then determined if the
substance is in violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act.
Evidence retrieved from clandestine laboratories is also analyzed.
This evidence may be retrieved by law enforcement officers or by
specially trained GBI chemists who are dispatched to the lab site and are
present with law enforcement officers while the evidence is being retrieved.
I also go out to local colleges and High Schools and talk to students who
are interested in this field; I give advice as to college education paths as
well as career paths.
