Jaime Johnson
Forensic
Scientist, Drug Identification Section
Mississippi
Crime Laboratory
I have a Bachelor
of Science degree in Biology, including 24 semester hours of chemistry, from the
University of Mississippi located in Oxford, Mississippi.
I have been employed as an organic chemist with an environmental testing
laboratory as well as a chemist with an industrial wastewater treatment
facility. I have been employed in
the drug identification section of the Mississippi Crime Laboratory since
December of 1994. My duties are to examine evidence submitted by law
enforcement agencies to determine the presence or absence of controlled
substances according to both state and Federal laws.
I also examine evidence confiscated at alleged clandestine laboratories
seized by local law enforcement agencies. Once
my analyses and examinations are complete and a report has been issued, I
testify in the various courts of law as an expert witness in drug identification
if called on to do so. I have
testified in more than 70 criminal and civil and Federal trials in the state of
Mississippi. In addition, I have
spoken numerous times to local schools, community organizations and churches,
not only about drugs and drug abuse, but general criminalistics and the crime
lab as well.
