DESCRIPTION
Incumbents
should have knowledge, skills and abilities in
one or more of the following:
(1)
Chemistry-perform analyses to identify
controlled substances;
(2)
Computer Evidence Recovery-perform
examinations of computer systems and media;
(3)
Crime Scene-perform crime scene analysis;
(4)
DNA Database-analyze biological specimens
collected from convicted offenders;
(5)
Firearms-perform examinations to identify
bullets, cartridge cases and shot shells;
(6)
Gunshot Residue-identify gunshot residue from
subjects and victims;
(7)
Latent Prints-develop latent fingerprint to
identify or eliminate individuals;
(8)
Microanalysis-identify textile fibers, paint,
glass and polymers and light filaments;
(9)
Serology/DNA-identify biological materials and
perform genetic testing;
(10)
Toxicology-perform blood and urine drug
analyses to identify drugs of abuse.
Minimum
Qualifications:
A
bachelor’s degree from an accredited college
or university with a major in forensic
science, criminalistics or in a physical or
natural science with satisfactory completion
of a Florida Department of Law Enforcement
Crime Laboratory Analyst Training Program (or
a comparable training program from another
forensic laboratory).
Professional
or technical experience in a forensic
laboratory or in the identification and
analysis of fingerprints can substitute on a
year-for-year basis for the required college
education.
Note:
If qualified applicants are not available,
appointments with trainee status will be
considered. Trainees will be hired at a
salary set below the minimum salary.
Trainees
will be required to sign a FDLE employment
agreement and commit to remain with FDLE
during training and for 2 years after
completing training. Members selected in
a trainee status will not be granted a
reassignment during the period.
Training
may take place outside of assigned region.
