DUTIES: The
Colorado Bureau of Investigation is seeking a Firearms
Examiner Trainee in the Forensic Laboratory.
This person will work with a Criminal Investigator II until they are
fully trained. This person will
be responsible for training in comparing, and evaluating a wide variety of
items such as firearms, unfired ammunition, fired bullets and casings,
clothing, tools, and objects bearing tool marks.
This person may also be responsible for crime scene response.
This person will eventually provide court testimony as a firearms and
tool mark expert.
EDUCATION AND
EXPERIENCE: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a
bachelor’s degree in criminalistics, chemistry, biology, physics or a field
related to the work assignment and ONE
YEAR of forensic laboratory experience (preferably firearms and tool
mark experience) using techniques specifically followed in forensic
laboratories..
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Applicant’s work experience in forensic laboratory firearms and toolmark
comparison which provided the same kind, amount and level of knowledge
acquired in the required education may be substituted for the education
requirement on a year for year basis.
NECESSARY SPECIAL
REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must
be willing to be fingerprinted, successfully pass a polygraph and an extensive
background investigation. If you
have used any illegal drugs in the past three years, been convicted of a
felony or domestic violence, you will be disqualified and will not be hired.
