FORENSIC SCIENTIST III- FIREARMS AND TOOLMARK SECTION

SALARY: Table 1 Grade 67 $3,188.00 per month to $3,905.00 per month commensurate with experience and qualifications

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Conducts forensic science testing and/or analyses in the area of firearms and toolmarks identification. Under direction, is responsible for identifying and analyzing firearms and toolmarks. Interprets test results and prepares forensic reports on findings. Testifies in court as an expert witness. Provides scientific results to law enforcement agencies and answers questions related to findings. Performs related duties as required. May assist in training lower level career path positions by conducting supervised casework.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Forensics, Chemistry, Natural Sciences or a closely related field and four (4) years forensic laboratory experience.
Must have a valid driver’s license. (Please enter driver’s license information on Background Information section of application.)
Must have available transportation during entire workday.
Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation.
Requires considerable knowledge of one or more of the following forensic subjects: analytical chemistry and laboratory procedures , serological and DNA analysis, firearms and toolmarks, photography and/or the use of microscopy and other complex instrumentation.
Requires skill in communicating effectively with other professionals, both verbally and in writing.
Requires ability to operate complex laboratory equipment, personal computers and basic office equipment; and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, County employees, and outside organizations.
Physical requirements include lifting/carrying of 15-20 lbs., occasionally; visual acuity, speech and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate complex laboratory equipment, computer keyboard and basic office equipment. Subject to reaching, standing, sitting, handling and walking to perform the essential functions. Working conditions are primarily inside an laboratory environment with exposure to infectious diseases, hazardous materials, flammable liquids, and unfavorable fumes , vapors or odors.
May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek.
