Position Description: This position will serve as the lead worker in the
Biology Section of the Bemidji Laboratory, providing guidance to section
scientists; ensuring adherence to quality assurance/quality control processes
and coordinating section activities with lead scientists in the St. Paul
Laboratory.
Position activities include: performing serology and DNA analysis on casework
samples; assisting the Biology section Technical Leader in evaluating new
procedures, writing standard operating procedures (SOPs), and recommending
modifications to existing SOPs; assisting in the coordination the activities of
the Biology Section; aiding in the development and maintenance of the DNA
training program; and testifying in a court of law when called upon.
This person in this position will also be a part of the crime scene
processing team (after appropriate training) and will be called upon to process
the scene of violent crimes.
Minimum Qualifications: Successful applicant must have at least five years of
experience as a Forensic Scientist with expertise in the following processes:
Serology examinations of physical evidence; DNA extractions; PCR; and fragment
analysis of STR data. The applicant must have testified in a court of law. The
applicant must have a bachelor’s degree in a physical science and the requisite
college coursework as required by Standard 5.3.1, as defined in the Quality
Assurance Standards for Forensic DNA Testing Laboratories. This coursework
includes classes in Genetics, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, and Statistics.
