“Identifying the Men of the Hunley”. Union and Confederate military

remains are still being discovered. Skeletal remains have been found on some of

America’s most important battlefields including Antietam, Brandy Station, and

Gettysburg. This program will explain how forensic anthropology, archaeology,

and historical research can identify remains as to military unit, individual

identity, and cause of death. Special attention will be given to the Confederate

submarine, the H.L. Hunley, which disappeared near Charleston Harbor on February
