SAFS OFFICERS

Robert J. Ollis Jr.

President (2009-2010 Term)

Robert Ollis is originally from and currently resides in Marietta, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta.  He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Kennesaw State University.  He began his career in forensic chemistry with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation in 1995.  Over his twelve years there he achieved the role of technical leader and primary trainer in chemistry.  During this time the GBI attained accreditation to the ISO 9002, ASCLD-LAB, and finally the ISO 17025.  Robert was responsible for the efforts of the drug identification discipline's estimation of measurement uncertainty.  He is certified as a clandestine laboratory investigator and external lead and technical assessor to the ISO 17025 standard with FQS-I. He is currently with the US Army Criminal Investigation Laboratory in the position of Quality Manager.   He is certified as a fellow (previous technical specialist) in forensic drug analysis by the American Board of Criminalistics, and is co-author of Instrumental Data for Drug Analysis, 3rd Edition (2005).  He has authored workshops in Measurement Uncertainty, Spectral Interpretation and Instrumental Analysis, and was Program Chair for the 2007 Annual SAFS Meeting held in Atlanta.  You can view Robert's State of the Association Address here.







                      

Larry K. Peterson 
Vice President (2009-2010 Term)

Larry Peterson is currently employed as a Trace Evidence Examiner with the U.S. Army Criminal Investigations Laboratory located at Fort Gillem, Forest Park, Georgia.  He earned a B.S. in Forensic Science from Florida Technological University (now University of Central Florida) in 1977.  He retired in 2008 from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation where he having served the citizens of Georgia for over 30 years performing trace evidence examinations.  Larry has been a SAFS member for over 20 years and has served on the awards committee for many years serving both as member and chairman.  He received the SAFS Outstanding Contribution to Forensic Science award in 1984 and is a Diplomat of the American Board of Criminalistics.












James W. 'Wally' Campbell Jr.
Secretary/Treasurer (2009-2010 Term)

Wally Campbell earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Chemistry from Armstrong Atlantic State University (formerly Armstrong State College) and a Masters of Public Administration from Columbus State University.  Mr. Campbell joined the Division of Forensic Sciences of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation in September of 1986. Mr. Campbell worked as a Forensic Chemist specializing in the identification of controlled substances for most of that time.  He was selected as Assistant Lab Manager of the GBI's Coastal Regional Crime Laboratory in 1999 and was promoted to Manager of the Coastal Regional Lab in July of 2004. Mr. Campbell is currently serving in this position. 
Mr. Campbell attended his first SAFS meeting in 1986 in Atlanta and has been a member of SAFS since 1989. He has served the organization as the Program Chair of the 2003 Spring SAFS meeting in Savannah, GA and was elected as the SAFS Treasurer at the 2004 Spring Meeting in Lafayette, LA. He was elected to the position of SAFS Secretary at the 2006 SAFS meeting in Birmingham, AL. Wally Campbell is also a member of the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors and is currently a Diplomate of the American Board of Criminalistics in General Criminalistics.







Tammy Jergovich
Immediate Past President (2009-2010 Term)

Tammy Jergovich earned the degree of Bachelor of Science in Criminalistics from Michigan State University in 1985 and a Master of Science in Public Administration from Columbus State University in 2008.  She has worked as a microanalyst performing trace evidence examinations on paint, polymer and fracture match evidence since 1987.  She worked with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement from 1987 to 1994 and joined the Georgia Bureau of Investigation in 1994 where she currently supervises the trace evidence section and performs trace evidence examinations.  Tammy has presented papers at forensic meetings and has authored papers and a book chapter dealing with trace evidence analysis.  Ms. Jergovich is a fellow of the American Board of Criminalistics (F-ABC) in the area of paints and polymers and is currently the paint subgroup chair for the Scientific Working Group on Material Analysis (SWGMAT).    Tammy has been a member of the SAFS since 1988.  During that time, she served as the program chair for the 2000 meeting in Gatlinburg, the chair of the Trace Evidence section  for the 1999 meeting in Atlanta, a member and chair of the nominating committee and as Vice President in 2008.
